Matt is a shining example of achieving ones goal when all odds are against him. Born with Down syndrome and a substantial hearing loss, Matt has learned how to play six musical instruments. He has been an inspiration to all people who have been told they probably would not be able to accomplish their dreams because of a disability. He has been playing the piano since he was ten years old, and since then has learned to play the harmonica ( which he plays along with the keyboard on his Christmas CD entitled "Happy Holidays from Matt Houska" released in 2005) He also plays the saxophone, guitar, xylophone and drums.
In May 2007, Matt won the "Best of the Best" Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the state of North Dakota. This award was given by the North Dakota APSE, the Network on Employment. In July, 2007 Matt was honored at the 18th Annual APSE Conference in Kansas City, Missouri where he received the NATIONAL AWARD for ENTRPRENEUR OF THE YEAR!
He has performed in many venues and just recently played at the capital in Birsmarck, North Dakota.
His mother, Janice Houska wrote a book about Matt's life from birth entitled "For the Love of Matthew"Growing Up with Down syndrome. The book and Matt's CDs are available through this site in the online store.
